Hi Atera Community,

I hope you're doing well!

I’m reaching out to learn from the community's collective experience as I work on automating key repetitive tasks in our IT operations to streamline end-user device provisioning.

Our process involves the following steps:

  1. Reinstall or Format (for used devices), or Set Up as New (for new devices)
  2. Rename devices based on Asset Tags
  3. Install the Atera agent

Once the Atera agent is installed, it orchestrates the rest via IT Automation Profiles. This includes tasks like:

  • Installing software bundles.
  • Running scripts (e.g., adding devices to the domain controller).

However, I’ve encountered a challenge:
When a script (like adding a device to Active Directory) triggers a reboot, any subsequent tasks in the IT Automation Profile (like software installation) don’t seem to resume or pick up where they left off. I’ve reached out to Atera support, and while they agree this is a valid concern, they’ve suggested submitting a feature request for improvement.

Before proceeding, I’d love to hear from the community:

  • How have you handled similar scenarios where multiple scripts and software bundles are tied to a single IT Automation Profile?
  • Have you implemented any workarounds to ensure all tasks execute sequentially or resume post-reboot without missing steps?
  • Are there any best practices you can share to automate these processes more effectively?

As we move into 2025 with AI playing an increasingly significant role in automation, I’d like to optimize this workflow and make it a decision factor for our IT strategy.

Looking forward to your insights and advice!

Thanks in advance
