Detailed server/ application monitoring

Hey all,

I am using Atera to monitor my server and endpoints but I more often find that the way of monitoring is not detailed enough.
It is good to understand if there was a peak in memory or CPU within an hour but once it comes to troubleshooting this information is not enough.

The information which I often require must be more precise e.g. not looking at hours but also peaks in minutes.

Also what I am looking for is more detailed data like:

  • network bandwidth in use
  • maybe network connection points
  • storage IO
  • CPU consumption
  • memory usage

And all this information should be possible to break down for a single application.

Use-case:
A customer calls me that an application is slow. With a bit of luck he also tells me the date and a rough timeframe.
From within Atera I can check the CPU and memory consumption during that hour which will give an idea if there is a general server issue.

Of course (as usual) the best would be to have a solution directly from within Atera :) but I can understand that this request might be too complex.

Therefore I am wondering what kind of software solutions you are using to troubleshoot this kind of application errors. SCOM seems to be great but requires a local server which I want to avoid.
I've read about https://www.zabbix.com which offers a cloud solution but do not have experiences with it yet.

What are you using or @gilgi is there somehing in the pipeline we should know about? :-)

    Hi mbudke,

    Like you mentioned above yourself I use Zabbix running on a RasPi along with Grafana to display the data in nice easy good looking dash.

    Have plans to move it off the Raspi (as can be quite intensive, unless i get a Raspi5 maybe) to a cloud solution, but we will see :)

    Anyway think zabbix is a good fit for what you want, i just have it monitorng servers with the "Active Agent" ie you install the zabbix agent on your servers and they report back to your zabbix server (where ever you keep it)
